What's Involved on a SALTY Strides Trip

How racing, training, and the rest of the retreat fit together on a SALTY Strides trip, for every kind of guest.

A SALTY Strides trip gives you a full SALTY retreat week built around one race weekend, and you choose how much running goes into it. You can race the full distance, race a shorter one, or skip running altogether and come as a supporter. Full inclusions, dates, rooms, and pricing live on the retreat page: https://www.getsaltyretreats.com/retreats/salty-strides-barbados. Every current and upcoming Strides trip is listed at /strides.

Pick your lane

Three lanes exist on a SALTY Strides trip, and none of them is the "real" one. Racers register for a distance, 5K, 10K, half, or full, and follow a training plan built for that race. Light runners take on a shorter distance without a heavy training block, treating the race as one part of the week rather than the whole point of it. Supporters skip the race and come for the retreat, the group, the excursions, and race-day cheering duty. Nothing locks you into a lane before you book.

Before race day

The lead-up to race day mixes run-specific prep with the rest of SALTY programming. Racers get shakeout runs and a taper, and their plan from a dedicated run coach builds in carb-loading and a push toward proper sleep as race day gets closer. Everyone else keeps moving on the full SALTY programme: mobility, yoga, pilates, strength and beach workouts, MetCon, and surf where the destination offers it. Racers and non-racers train and hang out together the whole time.

Race day

Race day means your distance and your pace, whichever one you picked when you booked. Supporters become the cheer squad, out on the course for every guest who lines up to run. Racers race and everyone else lines the route, so no one sits this day out.

After the race

Once the race is done, the week shifts into recovery. Movement stays on the schedule, mobility, yoga, pilates, strength and beach workouts, MetCon, at a gentler pace for guests still shaking out race legs. Excursions round out the days, and hosted cocktail nights carry the group into celebration mode as the trip closes.

Who this suits

SALTY Strides suits first-time racers who want a training plan and a crew instead of a lonely finish line. It suits seasoned runners who want their race attached to an actual vacation. It also suits plus-ones and friends who came along to cheer, with a full retreat week built for them whether or not they ever put on running shoes.

How it differs from a regular SALTY retreat

A regular SALTY retreat runs on the same movement menu all week: mobility, yoga, pilates, strength and beach workouts, MetCon, recovery, and excursions, with no single day built as the centrepiece. A SALTY Strides trip keeps that same programme and adds one thing on top, a real race with your bib built into your booking and a training plan from a dedicated run coach, so the week flexes around race day instead of running the same shape every day. Skip the race and a Strides trip looks a lot like a regular SALTY retreat with a finish line next door.
