Run Barbados is SALTY Strides No. 001, our first race weekend retreat, built around the Run Barbados Marathon Weekend on the island's south coast. Dates, prices, rooms and the coach line-up are on the retreat page: https://www.getsaltyretreats.com/retreats/salty-strides-barbados.
The setting
This retreat takes over Paradise Point, a beachfront property on Barbados' south coast, as a full buyout for the group. Multiple units across the property range from studios to a larger shared house, all sharing a pool and several decks, with direct beach access. Bridgetown and the rest of the south coast are a short trip away for the days around the race.
The race
Run Barbados Marathon Weekend is the island's flagship running festival, a multi-day event that turns the south coast into a celebration with a finish line. The course sweeps past Bridgetown's historic waterfront and runs right along the edge of the Caribbean. It stays flat and fast at sea level the whole way. You can race a 5K, a 10K, a half marathon or a full marathon, or join as a supporter and skip the race entirely.
A race spot is built into every pricing tier, whichever distance you pick. There is no separate registration to chase down. Once you book your trip, your bib is locked in.
Training support
Once you register for a distance, a dedicated run coach builds you a personalized training plan on TrainingPeaks, shaped around your race date and a recent result. Whether you are chasing a personal best or your first finish, the plan adjusts to your current fitness and runs on your own schedule right up to the start line.
Who this trip suits
Run Barbados suits first-time racers and seasoned marathoners alike, plus runners bringing a non-running partner or friend along for the ride. It also suits anyone travelling solo who wants a built-in crew before the race even starts.
Race week, day by day
The week opens gently, with light shakeout runs to shake off travel, then a few easy days easing toward race day. Race day itself is the centrepiece, with every distance starting and finishing along the same stretch of coast, and non-racers turning into the loudest cheering section on the course. The days after are for recovery: a slower morning, a big team dinner, then a return to regular SALTY programming and one last night together before flights home. Non-runners get the full SALTY week while their runner tapers.
Getting there
Barbados has direct routes from several major North American cities, which keeps travel simple for a race-weekend trip. Our Flights guide has the specifics, and dates, prices, rooms and the current coach line-up are on the retreat page.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to run a marathon to come on this trip? Running a marathon is not a requirement for this trip. Pick a 5K, a 10K, a half or a full marathon, or skip the race entirely and join as a supporter. Everything is optional except fun.
What if I've never raced before? Never having raced before makes you exactly the right fit for this trip. Your training plan is built around your current fitness the moment you register, and your SALTY coaches keep you moving once you are on the island.
Can I bring someone who doesn't run? Bringing someone who doesn't run is not a problem at all. Non-runners get the full SALTY week while their runner tapers, and they usually make the best finish-line crew.
Is the race entry included? Race entry is included in every pricing tier on this trip. A bib in your chosen distance comes with your booking, so there is nothing extra to register for.
Can't make this date? What if I want a different race? Not being able to make this date does not mean the end of SALTY Strides. Barbados is Strides No. 001, the first of several race weekend retreats. See our SALTY Strides overview for what else is coming.
