The short version
Check three things before you fly: your passport's expiry date, whether your destination needs a visa, and your travel insurance. Here's what to know for each.
Passport
Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your return date. Many destinations require this, and it's an easy thing to miss until you're at check-in.
Visa requirements by destination
Requirements depend on your passport and your destination, so always check your government's travel site before you book. As a general guide: Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and El Salvador are visa-free for most North American and European passports. Sri Lanka requires an online ETA, with a small fee and approval usually within a day. Morocco is visa-free for most North American and European passports for short stays. Sicily follows EU and Schengen rules, and most North American and UK passport holders don't need a visa for short stays. Barbados has its own entry rules, so confirm your specific requirement on your government's travel site before booking.
Travel insurance
Travel insurance is strongly recommended for every SALTY retreat, and our Terms of Service make you responsible for carrying appropriate travel and medical insurance. Look for coverage that includes medical care abroad, trip interruption or cancellation, lost or delayed baggage, and any adventure activities like surfing that you plan to do on your trip. Movement Travel can point you toward providers when you book.
Vaccines
Check with a travel clinic 6 to 8 weeks before you fly to confirm what's recommended for your destination and your own health history.
